Jesus Lights up the Room

Bible Verse

Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:14-16 NIV

Reflection

I love it when God uses an ordinary moment to remind us of a powerful truth.

My friends and I were walking through a thrift store of a faith-based ministry.

One of the rooms seemed a little dark. The lights flickered on as we walked through. We thought maybe they were on a motion sensor.

After looking around in another area, we came back through that dark room. This time, no lights came on. So, it wasn’t a motion sensor. The lights just weren’t working.

Up ahead on the wall was a large wooden cross. The lights behind it were still working. The cross was the only object in the room that was lit, which drew our attention right to it.

Jesus lights up the room!

I pointed toward the cross and said, “Look! Jesus is the only light in the room.”

It wasn’t till the words were out that I realized how true they really are.

No matter where we go, Jesus really is the only light in the room. He is the one true light. He is enough to light up the whole room.

And if we let Him, He would love to shine His light through us wherever we go. That’s how He chooses to spread His light every day.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, please help me to shine Your light wherever I go. Amen
