Reflection
I was attending a Christian event, and we were given the opportunity to pick up a candle to light. Several folks were helping pass out candles and lighting them. Because the event was crowded, folks started lighting their candles from candles that were already lit.
When my candle was first lit, the flame looked weak and almost went out. I told my friend it was not a surprise, as it reflected how I’ve been feeling. My light has felt pretty dim. I am raising a puppy and haven’t slept through the night for a few months.
Even so, my candle’s light flickered and gained a little strength. Several folks nearby asked if they could light their candles from mine. One woman’s candle couldn’t seem to catch the light at all. But I persevered. I kept trying over and over to get her candle lit, determined that my weak flame was enough. After several attempts, her candle finally caught the flame. And I felt like God got my attention.
His light shines through us—if we allow it—no matter what we are going through or how we feel. It might seem like our light feels dim because of circumstances. But His light still shines and reaches through us to others. He reminded me to keep letting His light shine through me, no matter what. Even when my light feels dim, He still shines brightly.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that no matter what we are going through, others can still see Your light shining through us. Even when our light feels dim, we can still point the way to You, and others will be blessed. Keep shining through us, Lord, and remind us to let Your light shine. In Jesus’ name. Amen
