Staying Present in the Season

Bible Verse

“You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” — Psalm 16:11 NKJV

Reflection

It’s that mid-fall season when I am easily tempted to wish for a swift passage of time. The earliest days of fall are nice. The weather is a little more comfortable than summer’s peak. I enjoy seeing fall decor and pumpkin spice lattes. It’s fun to curl up in the evening with a comfy throw blanket.

But when mid-fall rolls in, temperatures are dropping, days are shorter, and winter is on the horizon. It’s the time of year when this Miami girl, transplanted to north Georgia, longs for hibernation.

Lord, help us stay fully present with You in every season. Photo by Autumn Mott Rodeheaver at Unsplash

Two years ago, I made a decision not to just push through late fall and winter, all the while focusing on spring. I decided to stay fully present in the season. I didn’t want to miss what God had for me in each day.

I’m glad I took that approach. I’ve been able to experience my time with God and His creation more deeply, all the way through the seasons of the year. I want to continue being fully present in every season.

That feeling doesn’t come naturally. So at this time of year, I have to make my decision all over again. I ask for God’s help to stay fully present in the colder days ahead. I don’t want to miss those moments with Him. And I know that spring will be that much sweeter for having walked through the winter, fully present, with Him.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for every season of the year and every season of life with You. It’s a blessing to stay focused on You and be fully present each day. Help us choose to stay fully present with You throughout the year. Thank You for being here with us. In Jesus’ name. Amen
