We sang a song yesterday in church, a song I haven’t heard in a while: “Pass It On.” I grew up singing that song in our youth group and at church camp.
Singing it today brought me right back to those early years. Based on the comments around me, others felt the same remembrance.
It gave me a moment to reflect on how I experienced God back then and how I experience Him now. I may have changed over the years, but He is the same.
The same God whose steady presence was with me in childhood is the same God who keeps me steady now.
The God who was there for every moment of my young life hasn’t missed one moment since.
The God I remember praying and singing to as a young person is the same God I pray and sing to now.
When we think about all the years of our human lives, with all the details, the ups and downs, the journeys we take, it seems like quite a long path, like a lot has happened.
But God is the same. He is faithful and steady. Right there with us in every moment. Fully present with us throughout our whole life. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
As I enjoyed singing that favorite song yesterday, what a comfort to realize God has always been here and always will be.
